2024 BSOH Magazine Issue #20, the 10th Anniversary issue is completed.

2021

Demolition Kitchen Video celebrates over 30 Years of Movie Hosting.

• Seasons 3 and 4 of our alternate TV program Living Room, are completed   

• BSOH completes it's  15th Anniversary Special and 230th episode. 

• Production begins on Kansas Film Journal, issue #4

• Production has begun on a follow up to our making of special "The Film Butcher," from episode #117. The second section of the documentary will follow the stories about BSOH after it began airing in 2006.
(This project may also become a book or magazine special)     

Demolition Kitchen Video has been asked to assist on a documentary about Centron Films, preproduction began in September. We were on site as the Centron Film Corporation building was demolished, this was filmed for the documentary. The release date has not been set.  

 Scary Monsters magazine, issue #122 runs a feature article on horror hosts on BSOH titled "Dry Ice & Cobwebs" by author Don Swaynos.

• Production is completed on BSOH Magazine issue #15 and several more Special Edition issues TBA

•  A new interview with Gunter Dedmund and Joel Sanderson has been submitted to Scary Monsters magazine, hopefully it will appear in Summer 2021

• BSOH was scheduled to attend "The Slash & Bash" Film Fest in Topeka during 2020, appearing with "Darkness" director Leif Jonker.   This event has been rescheduled for August of 2021.

• Production begins production on Basement Sublet of Horror magazine issue #16 includes a tribute to comic book/pop media culture specialist Jerry Weist.

• Issues #2 and #3  of The Kansas Film Journal are completed.

Basement Sublet of Horror magazine issue #15 is in production, this will be a "Planet of the Apes" issue.

The Basement Sublet of Horror magazine issue #14 is in production, it will feature cover artwork and a new interview with a special guest artist painting on the cover. The project will have two variant versions with an "A" version featuring different content and a "B" version with a new interview with Crematia Mortem.

2020 • Production is under way for BSOH magazine issue #14 with some new writers onboard to liven things up for the new year.

• BSOH took part in a Tribute to Wichita Television host Jim 'Ol Flick' Erickson. The event was held in Wichita at the Starlite Drive-in in November, it was well attended. The event was coordinated by director Leif Jonker, who showed Demolition Kitchen "Visual History of Jim Erickson" and a brief tribute video from BSOH producer Joel Sanderson.

• Production is completed on BSOH magazine issue #13 with some new writers onboard to liven things up for the new year and a feature on Kansas horror host Gustopher Glitch.

• Issue #1 of The Kansas Film Journal is completed with issues #2 and #3 already in production.

• Production is completed o  BSOH magazine issue #12 with some new writers onboard to liven things up for the new year and a feature on Kansas makeup artist Jake Jackson.

• Production begins on a BSOH spin-off magazine about the history of films made in Kansas, to be called "The Kansas Film Journal".

2019

• The Demolition Kitchen Video produced spin off show of BSOH called "Living Room" launches on Night Flight Plus.

• BSOH magazine completes production on issue #11, featuring a cover story on Doktor Goulfinger & horror host historian Michael Monahan.

• BSOH is invited back as a guest at the local Lawrence Free State Comicon 2019.

• BSOH will be a guest at The ICT Comic Con and Science Fiction Expo in Wichita, Kansas on August 10 & 11. Leif Jonker invited BSOH to cross promote the upcoming Arrow Video Blu-Ray reissued of his film "Darkness". BSOH magazine issue #10 will be released at this show.

Update: The Basement Sublet of Horror has signed with Nightflight Plus, and Internet channel version of the classics 1980s Television variety show. Episodes of Basement Sublet of Horror, Junkyard & The Rabbit, and Living Room will all be available soon.

• An Internet television channel has expressed interest in picking up all of the Demolition Kitchen Media public access catalog, including Basement Sublet of Horror, Living Room, and Junkyard & The Rabbit. Stayed tuned for more details.

• BSOH magazine issue #11 has been shifted to having Doktor Goulfinger on the cover, the Gil-Man issue is now moved to a future publication.

Arrow Video brings Leif Jonker and BSOH to Texas Frightmare Weekend as guests for the release announcement of their 4K reissue of "Darkness".

• Leif Jonker converts Basement Sublet of Horror magazine issue #10 into a special mini-book edition, to be used as the liner notes for the Arrow Video 4K video reissue of his film "Darkness".

• BSOH finalizes a revamped production of magazine issue #10 with director Leif Jonker stepping in as a guest editor.

2018

• Demolition Kitchen begins production on a new online show, a feature show researching and telling the histories behind rare films and television programs.

• Gunther finished up BSOH magazine Special Issue #4, a scrapbook collection featuring the history of The Basement Sublet of Horror with many Behind-The Scenes photos, rare articles, all in 100 page magazine sized paperback edition.

• Production on BSOH magazine #10 is begun, a another issue on Kansas film and featuring California Horror Hosts.

2017

• Production begins on the remaining episodes for Season Eighteen, Gunther has begun working on one or two new Film Butcher cut-up episodes to thrown into the mix.

• This site's Episode section is restored with links to a lot of BSOH favorite episodes and expanded info listings are being added.

• BSOH magazine issue #9 is completed, a look at the Films Made in Kansas with information on several obscure film makers and rarely seen films.

• BSOH produced a new promo spot for the Free State Comicon based on the artwork of Dan Rempel, a fun little bit of weirdness featuring Gunther Dedmund doing voice characters.

• BSOH produced a second magazine movie Special Edition #3 on the Films of Bela Lugosi, it was completed, but the production stalled.

• BSOH magazine issue #7 on the film Carnival of Souls (a side project of our research for the Criterion Edition DVD) and #8 on the films of Christopher R. Mihm are completed.

• A new Blu-ray edition of the film "Carnival of Souls" was released, a project the BSOH served as a consultant on with a number of credits on the discs.

• The Demolition Kitchen archiving project has been growing steadily with nearly all of the BSOH episodes now posted online. As well as a number of special videos, documentation from the previous movie shows "M.T. Pockets Budget Film Fest" and "The Escape' Drive-in"

2016

• BSOH has been invited back as a guest at The Freestate Comicon here in Lawrence, if you're in town on October 1st please check out the show.

• BSOH produced two Special Editions of it's magazine, Special Edition #1 has a complete reprinting of all of the BSOH collector cards, the second Special Edition is a complete printing of a Guide to the films of Boris Karloff.

• BSOH shot a series of new episodes for it's 10th Anniversary year featuring a new set and opening sequence to the show.

• On June 13th, BSOH Celebrates it's 10th Anniversary, broadcasting episodes continuously for the last ten years.

• BSOH magazine began production on the special issue featuring all of the BSOH mag reviews on the Films of Boris Karloff. We hope to have the issue completed sometime this year.

• BSOH has been asked to consult and maybe even contribute to a future Blue-Ray reissue of "Carnival of Souls" by the Criterion Collection. It's up in the air at the moment, but it's exciting all the same.

• BSOH visited Wondercon this year, got to meet with the comic book publisher coordinator for Famous Monster of Filmland magazine. Maybe something will come from this.

• BSOH becomes one of the first shows to begin airing on a new Roku Channel called BetaMax TV, look for it, there's a lot of really interesting horror content.

• BSOH completes issues #5 and #6 of The Basement Sublet of Horror magazine with #5 a tribute issue to Lawrence based science fiction author James Gunn, while #6 is a tribute to the Kansas film maker Lance Hayes.

• After a massive production binge on the television program in 2014 where around 30 episodes were shot, BSOH finally is able to catch up.

• BSOH revamps the television show with a new more dynamic opening title sequence.

2015

• Joel Sanderson, producer of BSOH, has been asked back for another appearance at The Freestate Comicon in Lawrence, KS, October 3rd. Drop by his table and say hello.

• BSOH produces issues #3 and #4 of The Basement Sublet of Horror magazine with #3 featuring a tribute to Wichita horror host Tom Leahy Jr. and cover by Lawrence artist Dan Rempel featuring the Leahy film "Green Hell from the Void". Issue #4 has cover artwork by Las Vegas artist Bradley Beard along with an interview.

• BSOH is finally able to track down a copy of Tom Leahy Jr. unreleased television pilot "Green Hell from the Void", releasing it to the public on Vimeo and The Internet Archive.

• BSOH has been asked back to produce the commercial spots for The Freestate Comicon.

• BSOH had a guest table spot at Texas Frightmare Weekend in Dallas, selling out of all of the publications during the course of the show.

• Production begins on the third issue of BSOH magazine.

• BSOH renews showings on CATS public television channel in Bloomington, IN for another year.

• BSOH will be returning as a guest at The Freestate Comicon in 2015, we're also producing their video spots again and are assisting in the production of a promotional 10th anniversary publication.

• BSOH begins rebuilding it's Roku channel now using Vimeo as the back end streaming service. Hopefully The Escape' Drive-in Channel (which is also the BSOH channel) wll be back on the Roku schedule soon.

2014

• Joel, producer of BSOH, is an invited comic book creator guest at the 2014 Freestate Comicon. Presenting the release of the 2nd BSOH comic book and both of the first two issues of the BSOH Magazine. BSOH comic book artist Rik 'Mr. Verlin' Livingston is also an invited guest at the show.

• Demolition Kitchen Video produce a series of successful video spots for the 2014 Freestate Comicon.

• The abbreviation for the show "BSOH" is now listed on the Internet Encyclopedia of Acronyms.

Both of the first issues of the BSOH magazine project are finished printing and first made available at the 2014 Freestate Comicon.

• BSOH begins efforts to launch a channel on Roku internet television, a first attempt is launch but becomes to successful rapidly exceeding the budget for the show. Unfortunately the plug was pulled on the channel because we couldn't afford to keep it running in it's initial configuration. We left the Roku system on good terms and were invited to launch a commercial version of the channel, so that costs could be underwritten. This version is currently in production and the channel should relaunch later this year.

• Gunther produces a series of station promo for the horror host programming on WRCT in York Pennsylvania, also producing promo spots for CATS in Bloomington, Indiana.

• Production begins simultaneously on a second issue of the BSOH magazine, both issues will be released later in the year.

• WRCT asks BSOH to shoot some promo spots for them, BSOH also offers to shot promo spots for CATS in Bloomington, IN.

• Production begins on issue one of the BSOH magazine, due out late Summer of this year.

• Greg Smallwood artist & co-creator of Dark Horse comics "Dream Thief" completes the cover art for the second BSOH comic book, which is really incredible.

2013

• WOW cable in Lawrence lays off it's public access coordinator Kevin Hoehns, right before the Christmas holiday, which leaves showings of BSOH in limbo.

• Time-Warner cable in Kansas City merges with Comcast and lays off it's public content coordinators, leaving showings of BSOH in Kansas City also in limbo.

• The Seventeenth Season of the show is completed.

• Production begins for the second issue of the BSOH comic book.

• Joel, producer of BSOH, is an invited comic book creator guest at the 2013 Freestate Comicon.

• The BSOH comic book first issue is published in August and offered in four different versions, Deluxe with a special BSOH episode DVD, Special signed edition with limited collector card, a digital version, and a retail edition.

• Gunther Dedmund resigns from the The Horror Host Hall of Fame.

• Gunther is asked back for a sixth Halloween special on local TV channel 6, teaming again with Evelle LeChat's Night Fright. This event is an all night long horror movie special featuring three movies.

• Gunther Dedmund is made one of the coordinators of The Horror Host Hall of Fame.

• Tex LeBeauf returns to BSOH by hosting two new episodes, shot in June.

• BSOH begins production on it's 17th season (Seasons are based on episode sets (usually 16 episodes or more), not on actual years of broadcast).

BSOH shoots it's 200th episode in May.

• The BSOH comic book, featuring the artwork of California artist Rik Livingston, Jeff Kilian, Dave Fuentes, and with an introduction by Scott Phillips is finalized and readied for printing.

• Joel, producer of the show, sets a personal record of completing the edits of 8 episodes in one day.

• BSOH producer attends Texas Frightmare Weekend as a guest of Mirthquake, meeting artist Berni Wrightson, and actress's Virginia Madsen, Denise Crosby, and Dee Wallace. Thanks to Matt Orsman for making this possible.

• BSOH begins production on it's 17th season (Seasons are based on episode sets (usually 16 episodes or more), not on actual years of broadcast).

• Gunther sets a new personal record of shooting 20 episode hosting segments in one day, doing this by having all of the scripts & info prepared in advance (including an additional 2 episode reshoots).

• The 300th BSOH collector card is produced, making the full set nearly impossible to collect.

• Gunther attends Horrorhound Weekend in Cincinnati in support of the 2013 Horror Host Hall of Fame ceremony (Gunther was unable to make an appearance at the show in costume, due to travel restrictions).

• BSOH begins production on it's 16th season (Seasons are based on episode sets (usually 16 episodes or more), not on actual years of broadcast).

• Gunther establishes a series of guest hosts for the show, including Butch R. Cleaver, Ol' Flick (Jim Erickson) from Wichita, and several other people who were interested in helping out.

• Gunther sets a new personal record of shooting 16 episode hosting segments in one day, doing this by having all of the scripts & info prepared in advance.

• BSOH begins production on it's 15th season (Seasons are based on episode sets (usually 16 episodes or more), not on actual years of broadcast).

2012 • Famed Wichita movie host Jim Erickson, also known as Ol' Flick, Dr. Greymatter, & Leonard Kratsloe, drops by the basement to guest host several episodes of the show. Ben Urish, sometimes known as Keith Gist, visits as well guest hosting an additional episode.

The book "Regional Horror Films, 1958-1990" by Brian Albright is published, Gunther contributed an interview and content about Tom Leahy's film "The Beast From The Beginning Of Time" which is included in the book.  

• Work begins on a BSOH comic book, featuring the artwork of California artist Rik Livingston.

• CATS Community Access Television Bloomington, IN shows a three hour Halloween Special featuring BSOH.

• Gunther is included in an article in Scary Monsters Magazine, issue #84. Dave Fuentes wrote an article on the 2012 Horror Host Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.

• Joel, Producer of BSOH is interviewed by Mike Anderson of the Lawrence channel 6 "Not So Late Show" during the Freestate Comicon.

• Joel, Producer of BSOH appears at the Freestate Comicon to promote the show.

• Gunther is asked back for a fifth Halloween special on local TV channel 6, teaming again with Evelle LeChat's Night Fright. This event is an all night long horror movie special featuring three movies.

• Gunther produces another special 30 sec. spot for the Lawrence Channel 6 All Nite Horror Marathon.

• June 13th marks the sixth anniversary of continuous broadcasting of BSOH in Lawrence and across the country. It is also the 23rd anniversary of Joel's movie shows, which have been continuously showing since 1989, beginning with The Escape' Drive-in and M.T. Pockets Budget Film Fest.

• Gunther Dedmund inducts Wichita horror host Tom Leahy Jr. into the Horror Host Hall of Fame via remote presentation at The Gothic Gathering during Horrorhound Weekend 2012.

• BSOH begins production on it's 13th season (Seasons are based on episode sets (usually 16 episodes or more), not on actual years of broadcast).

• BSOH shows it first episode in anaglyphic 3D & offers a special 3D Collectors Set for local Lawrence viewers.

• Gunther Dedmund is interviewed by the Daves from Terror From Beyond The Daves horror host blog.

• BSOH launches the Horror Movie Poster Hand Coloring Contest, Stan & Ozzy Hart along with Joseph Braun were the winning artists.

Gunther Dedmund is invited back as a guest at the 2012 Gothic Gathering, part of Horrorhound Weekend in Columbus, Ohio (unfortunately Gunther has to cancel his appearance).

• BSOH begins production on it's 12th season (Seasons are based on episode sets (usually 16 episodes or more), not on actual years of broadcast).

• BSOH steps in to help Jason Hignite of Horrorhound Magazine and assumes design duties on The Gothic Gathering web site and also builds a new site for The Horror Host Hall of Fame.

2011 • BSOH begins production on it's 11th season.

Gunther Dedmund's Virtual Horror Convention Gunther developers an interactive web site called "The Virtual Horror Convention" which is a tongue in cheek parody of the horror convention scene.

• BSOH stages it's first Xmas Trivia Contest over the holidays, Brian Easterling is the Grand Prize winner.

 

Gunther is interviewed on the Lawrence talk show "The Not Late Show" by host Mike Anderson to promote the Channel 6 all nite Halloween Horror Marathon.


• Gunther is asked back for a fourth Halloween special on local TV channel 6, teaming again with Evelle LeChat's Night Fright. This event is an all night long horror movie special featuring three movies and three featurettes.

•Gunther produces a special 30 sec. spot for the Lawrence Channel 6 All Nite Horror Marathon.

• A new book of interviews called "Rock N' Roll Party of the Dead", includes Gunther Dedmund is released along with interviews of Clive Barker & Ingrid Pitt and many others.

 

Gunther meets the Daves of "Terror Beyond The Daves" horror host blog at Horrorhound weekend.


• Gunther appears as one of the live hosts for the Monster Channel during Horrorhound Weekend 2011, nearly all of these segments were recorded, except for Gunther's which was not, darn.

BSOH produces it's 100 episode, December 2010.

• Gunther Dedmund is included in a series of horror host pogs produced by artist Brian (Monkeygoatboy) Maze.

• Gunther is invited back as a juror for the Wild West Film Fest: Scare Show. The Gnome Wins?

• BSOH launches a string of horror host promos for A. Ghastlee Ghoul, Monster Madhouse, Nigel Honeybone, Ms. Monster Hel On Ice & Fright Night Fright Nights.

• June 13th marks the fourth anniversary of continuous broadcasting of BSOH.

• BSOH begins airing on WRCT White Rose Community Television, York PA.

• BSOH makes a guest appearances on the 100 Years of Monster Movies webcast for Victor Von Scary's "Fright Night, Fright Nights".

• BSOH produces episodes for broadcast on the Horror Host Graveyard.
   Channel 20 on Cablevision in Hauppauge, NY.

• Gunther is interviewed for a book on "Rock & Roll" celebrities working in the horror industry, the book features many interviews and is scheduled for release in 2011.

• Gunther Dedmund is included in a recap of the Horrorhound Convention, appearing in several photos in issue #23 of Horror Hound magazine.

100 Years of Monster Movies, Gunther takes part in an online broadcast of over 48 hours of monster movies broadcast on the Chiller channel, part of the Horrorhound weekend in Indianapolis. Gunther is the host of two movies during the event (episode #149 was shown & a mashup version of #129 wasn't).

2007 • BSOH begins showing on Time Warner Cable's "On Demand" service on channel 113 in Kansas City.

BSOH begins showing on Sunflower Cablevision's "On Demand" service in Lawrence.

• Gunther Dedmund is a judge at the "Scare Factor edition" of the Wild West Film Fest.

  BSOH begins showing on Cox Cable channel 7 in Wichita, KS.

BSOH is featured on public access in Dayton, Ohio, as a featured guest on the Horror host Underground's cable access network.

• The Lawrence local newspaper Lawrence Journal World runs a full page feature on BSOH.

BSOH featured on the front cover of local Lawrence, KS. news magazine "The Lawrencian".

• June 13th the movie shows continue as "The Basement Sublet of Horror" goes on the air on Sunflower public access TV channel 99, Lawrence, KS.


1996-2002
Joel dressed to host a "Cosmic Cowboy" edition of the show.
M.T. Pockets Budget Film Fest begins a six year run at the Wichita Center for the Arts, Wichita, KS. This version was a full stage show with musical guests, interactive contests and the famous prize drawing.

1996 • The first test version of a TV show version of the movie show is run on Sunflower cablevision in Lawrence, KS. The project was abandon because copyright clearances couldn't be obtained at that time for future episodes, the test show ran at random times during the channel 6 broadcast schedule as filler.

1993-1996 • An indoor version of the Escape' Drive-in is created called "M.T. Pockets Budget Film Fest", it has a three year run at the Freestate Brewery's beer garden, Lawrence, KS.
1993 • The Escape' Drive-in performs on the main stage at Liberty Hall, Lawrence, KS. With Matt Kirby, Bill Wachpress, Fred Gutknecht, Karl Ramberg and Danger Bob.

1989-1998 The Escape' Drive-in party is started in Vinland, KS.
Showing the first re-edited feature films. Escape' shows were held in Vinland, Lawrence, Kansas City and Wichita.

1990 First horror hosted films a double feature of "The Killer Fish" & "Brotherhood of Satan"
1987-1988 • In conjunction with Joel's KMUW Aftermidnight radio show "Midnight Hour", a series of concerts are staged at Sky Bowl lanes in Wichita, KS. Both the Blivets and Klyde Konner perform sets out on the bowling lanes, this is also the first appearance of the prize drawings.
1987 • Monster Island Radio is replaced by a radio feature show on regional bands & music, first called "Sister Midnight" (the original title, a women's music show) then renamed "Midnight Hour". Produced by Joel Sanderson.
1984 image• The first appearance of Gunther Dedmund was as co-host for a Wichita State University benefit midnight movie show with Gustopher Glitch at the C.A.C.. Gunther first appeared as a zombie, the only thing that stayed in the current costume was the glasses (which are Joel's old glasses from when he was in junior high).
1983 - 1988 • Cut-up found film, sculpture and audio experiments are shown at various venues in Wichita, KS. Early works included "Big Game" re-edited film with J.S./Mike Curtis (Victor Wulf) score and "Halftime" an overly ambitious multimedia presentation for a KMUW benefit.

1983 • Monster Island Radio goes on the air, KMUW Aftermidnight 89.1 in Wichita. Hosted by BSOH producer Joel as "Hap Hazard" named for his deejay style.
1980 - 1981 • The first re-edited films are shown as unscheduled intermissions dropped into regular movie showings at the 50-S Drive-in, Emporia, KS.

1970 • Joel stages his first movie shows in his parents garage or basement showing 8mm silent classics to the neighborhood kids, he hand draws the flyers one at a time.
